The long-gestating adaptation of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" might be one step closer to reaching the silver screen as the director of the forthcoming film was already reigned - none other than the Danish director of "A Royal Affair", Nikolaj Arcel.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the Danish director is confirmed to talk about Stephen King's film "The Dark Tower" soon. Even though the arrangement is not yet finalized, Nikolaj Arcel is expected to both direct and rewrite the script if he, by any chance, boards the project which is now currently written by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinker.
Arcel is well-known for his directorial films "A Royal Affair", "Truth about Men" and "Island of Lost Souls" and his penned Swedish adaptation of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."
"The Dark Tower" is currently in the works of Sony Pictures with Media Rights Capital as its co-funder. The company intends to adapt the book series into a franchise of movies which is reportedly linked to a complementary TV show just like Ron Howard's version a few years back.
The new adaptation of the book however, is set to focus on characters Roland and Jake as well as their relationship. Sony plans for the film to highlight the franchise's fantasy and horror feels which will be a total revamp from its previous version.
Stephen King's upcoming film adaptation is being produced by Imagine Entertainment's Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Erica Huggins, Pinker, and Goldsman via Weed Road Pictures.
Though there has been no confirmation yet, three speculated actors are already reported to contend to play the lead role of the first film which includes Russel Crowe of Les Miserables, Javier Bardem of Skyfall and Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad.
Meanwhile, Sony and MRC did not release a statement yet regarding the official cast and release date of Stephen King's forthcoming adpatation of "The Dark Tower" which means it might take a while before the highly-anticipated book series adaptation will be rolled out to the red carpet.
