A lot of major changes are expected to occur in the fourth season of CW's "Arrow" including a shift to a lighter theme and probably a retired vigilante hero.
Opening with a major character's death and a continuation of morbid tone throughout, the third season of CW's hit series "Arrow" has already been noted for its dark theme; but with Oliver's happy ending in its season finale, it seems like the upcoming 4th season of the show is set to go on a lighter path.
The third season finale of CW's "Arrow" ended with a bang last week. After defeating the leader of the League of Assassins, Ra's al Ghul, and saving Starling City from destruction, Oliver Queen finally got his happily ever after as he and his love interest Felicity Smoak drove off into the sunset to start a new life. With a conclusion like that, one can really say that the show might possibly take the daintier road unlike its previous seasons.
In an interview with io9, the series showrunner Marc Guggenheim confirmed that the fourth season of "Arrow" will be infusing slight unclouded and fun parts just like its brother series "The Flash". According to him, everyone thinks a little bit more of lightness and humor is needed to the show. However, Guggenheim also clarified that the show will not entirely change the theme so the fans of darkness do not really have to worry. "It's not going to radically change. The show's still going to be the show but in terms of tone, we're coming off a very, very hard season for all of our character. We wanted to try to mix it up a little bit," he explained.
On the other hand, by the looks of the third season's ending, it looks like Oliver is finally done with his Arrow suit. In fact, actor Stephen Amell confirmed this during the last carpet event of the CW network in New York where he stated that the superhero the fans have come to know and love no longer exists.
Though the rest of the details are still under the wraps, Arrow's fans do not need to worry yet because even if his retirement really is true, it is noted that the hooded vigilante is set to appear on DC's future series "Legends of Tomorrow"; and believe it or not, Oliver Queen is wearing his Arrow suit in the forthcoming show's trailer.
Meanwhile, "Arrow" Season 4 is expected to join the CW network's fall lineup this year.
