Up for grabs, Halo 3: ODST Free Codes! Who in his right frame of mind would not want to get that? Last look, Halo 3: ODST took America by storm cornering in record number of sales, eventually pulling in the as the top-selling Xbox 360 game worldwide. But a word of warning: not everybody will get the free codes.

But first, a little look back. There's a bit of confusion as to what really happen leading to the free codes. One theory says the leaked release date taken from the Xbox official website was erroneous prompting developer team at 353 Industries to pull it out. Or perhaps it was just a marketing ploy. But even with the release of the reenergized version of Halo 3: ODST, all the hullabaloo led to codes being given with no charge.

Of course, pretty soon the Master Chief Collection's brilliant rework of Halo 3: ODST will be available starting at $5. Those who have gotten the bugs courtesy of the Master Chief are the ones that are getting the "we're sorry" codes, obviously to get their bit of suffering a lift. And this has been duly confirmed via tweet by no less than the senior Xbox PR manager, Rob Semsey.

And official word from 343 Industries the developer of the collection detail who can get the free codes and who won't. It read: "Online users that logged in with their Xbox Live account and played Halo: The Master Chief Collection on any day from November 11, 2014 through December 19, 2014 at 11:59 pm PDT are eligible for a free code granting access to the Campaign for Halo 3: ODST on Xbox One."

So that should settle it. In case you were wondering, the game codes are coursed through messages on the Xbox One. But do hurry as these notices will disappear a day after June 30. And yes, you need to confirm ownership of your Master Chief Collection copy via either physical discs or your digital licenses.
