Black Angel, Star Wars companion short film, soon to become a full length movie; Production gets green light despite fund raising project failure

Black Angel, which was originally a 27-minute short film released in 1980's will now be made into a full length film. The original short film was released before the Star Wars: The Empire Strikes was shown, and its upcoming full length feature will reportedly appeal especially to Game of Thrones fans.

The short film Black Angel was originally directed by Roger Christian, and only had a £25,000 to spend for his budget, which was given by the Star Wars creator George Lucas. The film was released, but its negative went missing, until it was found by a Universal Studios archivist in 2011.

The short film was an Arthurian tale about a medieval soldier by the name of Sir Maddox who saved a princess when he was on his way home from the Crusades fights.

Meanwhile, its feature length film will still be directed by Christian, and is said to be one that will bring the viewers into a world where various mythological species exists, "Like the first Star Wars and Alien we are going for absolute reality, engaging the audience in the drama so they feel like they are really there in this ancient world, shot in staggeringly beautiful landscapes, ancient cities and castles," Christian said.

"With flying demons and sorcerers, princesses and Knights, armies of the undead and an evil god of the underworld, we are filming down and dirty, ultimate realism that audiences hunger for and the world I am passionate to create on film again." He added. He also reportedly said that it will be gritty, brutal, and an epic Game of Thrones-style.

A fundraising project for the film is currently underway in Indiegogo, with the target of $100,000. But even if the fund raising campaign reaches its target goal or not, the film is still going to be produced as it already has a $15 million dollar budget on it. Jonathan Rhys Davis and Rutger Hauer will be part of the cast, and it will still be directed by Roger Christian.

Possible film locations are said to be in Eilean Donan Castle, Glencoe, the Isle of Skye, Steall Falls in Glen Nevis, Loch Eck in Argyll and Dunoon Riverside Health Club's swimming pool. The crew will reportedly go to Morocco, Belgium, Hungary, and Scottland.

Production for the film begins in September.
