The Android 5.1 rollout for Xperia T2 Ultra, C3, M2, and M2 Aqua as well as Xperia Z series is set to start in July. The Xperia Z series will first receive the update which will be followed by the devices mentioned earlier.
Sony announced on Thursday that it will roll out Android 5.1 Lollipop update to its smartphone devices that currently have Android 5.0 on board. The devices updated to Android 5.0 lollipop that the company is pertaining to are Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z. Other Xperia Z series, namely Xperia Z, Z1, Z2 and Z3, are also currently upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop as the rollout takes place across the regions.
Sony is also happy to announce that it will be rolling out the Android 5.1 upgrade directly to Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua. As per when the update would be, Sony did not mention any specific dates except for the assurance that these devices will receive the Lollipop update after bumping the Xperia Z series to Android 5.1.
US network operator T-Mobile has rolled out Android 5.0 Lollipop on Sony Xperia Z3 phablet this week. On June 2, T-Mobile senior product manager Des Smith posted to Twitter its intention of pushing out the 5.0 L update for the phablet device.
Owners of Xperia Z3 from T-Mobile can finally have a taste of the Lollipop software especially since T-Mobile is the only mobile carrier that retail Sony devices in the US. Among the enhancements that Xperia Z3 will enjoy with the Android 5.0 on board include new security capabilities, revamped lockscreen, improved notifications, multi tasking window and a modified Material Design.
T-Mobile removed the Xperia Z3 to its list of offered Sony devices 6 months after it had started selling it. But it is now selling it again at a discounted price.
Like T-Mobile that announced earlier its Android 5.0 rollout plan for Xperia Z3, Sony also made an announcement in March of its plan to upgrade its Xperia Z series to Android 5.1. Now it includes Xperia T2 Ultra, C3, M2, M2 Aqua, while the rest of its devices seem to be stuck on the Android version they currently have.
