"Underworld: Next Generation" is the fifth installment of the franchise that started back in 2003. More than a decade later, Screen Gems will again highlight the battle between the vampires and the lycans in the big screen. But before it hits cinemas on 2016, here are the initial reports about the anticipated sequel.
"Priest" writer pens the movie script
As reported by Screen Rant, writer Cory Goodman was tapped to pen the "Underworld 5" movie script. His attachment in Scott Stewart's 2011 movie, "Priest," is his well-known work yet. But before he was tapped for the latest "Underworld" installment, Goodman also shared his writing skills for Breck Eisner's
"The Last Witch Hunter" starring Vin Diesel, premiering this October.
Kate Beckinsale, Theo James returns
The face of the "Underworld" franchise will reprise her role as Selene in the latest sequel. Kate Beckinsale will again wear her tight black costume and will be joined by "Divergent" star Theo James, a young vampire named David in the movie. Previous reports claim that Beckinsale will not reappear in the film but just recently, the actress confirmed her attachment to it.
New vampires and lycans set to reign
"Underworld: Next Generation" will focus on the conflict between the younger vampires and werewolves as per the report of Movie Insider. This could mean that Screen Gems is aiming for a soft reboot and might involve new characters on the way. By the end of "Underworld 4," Selene and her daughter, Eve, set out to find Michael, played by Scott Speedman. The fifth sequel could focus on that while introducing the young generation of monsters. Filming kicks off this October in Prague.
Selene's daughter as the new protagonist?
And since the new sequel will be focusing on the next generation, it just makes sense if Eve will have more action scenes and play a larger role in the film. In fact, according to ComingSoon.net, "Underworld: Next Generation" will see Selene and Michael's hybrid daughter as the film's protagonist. This could even imply that the franchise will continue even after the release of the fifth movie.
"Underworld: Next Generation" will drop in theaters late 2016 with Kate Beckinsale, Theo James, and new generation of vampires and lycans. But what else do you want to see in "Underworld 5"? Thoughts are welcome in the comments section below.
