Ever since Sam Taylor-Johnson left the director's chair of "Fifty Shades Darker," the post remains vacant until now. Despite the lack of helmer, E. L. James' famous book series is still getting a lot of attention especially with the recent news about its spinoff, which won't cast Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan.
The "Fifty Shades of Gray" film adaptation was a success with staggering $570 million global earnings but that did not stop Sam Taylor-Johnson from leaving the franchise.
In March, the 48-year-old director announced her detachment from the project due to creative differences from author E. L. James herself. Until now, the helmer post remains vacant for the highly-anticipated sequel.
However, this issue seems to be buried by tons of news about the famous book series and movie franchise. Just recently, E. L. James announced the spinoff of her trilogy titled, "Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian" via her Instagram account.
The news made E. L. James' religious fans go wild since the "Fifty Shades" spinoff will be narrated by Christian Grey himself, said the Washington Post.
E. L. James cannot help but be proud of her work as it has long been desired by her fans to know Christian's point of view of his relationship with Ana.
"Christian is a complex character, and readers have always been fascinated by his desires and motivations, and his troubled past," the author said in a news release from Penguin Random House,
Unfortunately for the fans of Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, E! Online reported that the two faces of "Fifty Shades" franchise may not appear in the spinoff, if it comes into fruition, as it is not included in their contracts.
Johnson and Dornan however, will appear in the remaining two film adaptations dropping on theaters on 2017 and 2018 respectively. "Fifty Shades Darker" will surely see new actors to play the characters from the book series. Fans have been rooting for Charlize Theron to play Elena Lincoln but Universal Pictures has not yet released an official statement about her attachment to the franchise.
"Fifty Shades Darker" is slated to drop in theaters on 2017 but until now, the movie has not yet found a director, a post left by Sam Taylor-Johnson. But fans of E. L. James' book series remain optimistic especially with the new the release of "Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian."
