Lethal Weapon Star and Former Radio Personality Mary Ellen Trainor Dies

Mary Ellen Trainor, who starred as Dr. Stephanie Wood, the police psychiatrist in Lethal Weapon Parts 1 to 4, died on May 20. Her cause of death was due to complications from pancreatic cancer.

Mary Ellen Trainor's longtime friend Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed on Monday that the Lethal Weapon actress died at her home in Montecito, California at the age of 62, reports US Magazine. Trainor was also known to portray as the mother of two siblings in the 1985 classic The Goonies which she worked together with director Richard Donner along with Scrooged in 1988. Mary Ellen Trainor started her career as an actress in 1980 after she married her husband Oscar-winner Robert Zemeckis whom she was divorced with in 2000.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Trainor's big screen debut was Romancing The Stone in 1984, which was directed by her then husband. The two teamed up in Back to the Future Part II, Death Becomes Her and Forrest Gump. Other films Trainor starred in were Freaky Friday, Little Giants and Die Hard where she portrays as a news reader.

BROADCAST CAREER

Mary Ellen Trainor, who grew up in California, studied Broadcast Journalism at San Diego State University where he met her husband. Trainor used to be a production assistant in L.A., a radio personality at KSDO, a station editor at KCBS-TV and an assistant to the producer of Steven Spielberg's 1941 which was written by her future husband.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Trainor, known to family and friends as "Mare", also landed roles on television such as UPN-WB's Roswell, ABC's Relativity and Fox's Parker Lewis Can't Lose.

Meanwhile, a memorial service is scheduled on June 19 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Montecito. Mary Ellen Trainor's family requests that donations be sent to The Wounded Warrior Project and the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation in lieu of flowers.
