Beauty and the Beast is the beloved 1991 classic that is going to be given the live-action treatment. The upcoming film will follow in the footsteps of its counterpart by being a musical.
According to a report with Stitch King, production for the upcoming film is already well underway. Fans of the animated classic film are already excited which songs will be included in the live-action adaptation of the animated classic. Disney composer, Alan Menken who penned the songs for the 1991 film said there will be some "changes" in the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.
In a recent interview, Alan Menken revealed that he and his writing partner Tim Rice have composed three new songs for the upcoming film. He revealed that he felt that the song, "If I Can't Love Her" wouldn't be a good fit in the film. The song, which appeared in the Broadway adaptation of the film is a ballad that the Beast sings, while pining away for Belle.
"The song I would have fit in from the Broadway show is 'If I Can't Love Her,' but the Beast's moment in the film is a much later moment, it would not be 'if I can't love her,' it's 'I love her but -damn it- I'm letting her go." the composer said.
Menken said that he is working on a song called 'Days in the Sun', which is a lullaby about the enchanted objects reminiscing about what life was like before the curse. They also came up with another song called "Forever More" about the Beast finally realizing what love is.
The movie includes a stellar cast, including Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as The Beast, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Luke Evans as Gaston, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Josh Gad as LeFou, Kevin Kline as Maurice, and Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts.
Bill Condon is directing Beauty and the Beast from a script written by Stephen Chbosky.
Beauty and the Beast is set to be released on March 17, 2017.
