Despite fan desperation regarding the prolonged movie release and the very little updates disclosed to public, the rather anticipated movie has still yet plenty to reveal. What is certain is that distinguished people shall be working behind the film about the favourite god-turned-superhero.
Columbia Pictures hired Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara as screenwriters for the upcoming film since 2009. Three-time ALMA Awards nominee Adam Fierro is a distinguished filmographer who worked on notable tv series like 24, The Shield, Hawthorne, Resurrection Blvd., Dexter, and The Walking Dead either as writer or producer. Glen Mazzara, on the other hand, is an OFTA Television Award and WGA Award nominee who worked with Fierro in The Walking Dead, Hawthorne, and The Shield. He is also known for writing and producing tv series such as Damien, Criminal Minds, and Crush.
Actor, director, producer, and writer Peter Berg will be directing the film. He starred in films such as Never on Tuesday, A Midnight Clear, Fire in the Sky, Cop Land, co-starred with Tom Cruise in Collateral and Lions for Lambs, and played as Dr. Billy Kronk in Chicago Hope wherein he was best known on-screen. Then after, he decided to move behind the camera and started directing Very Bad Things, Lone Survivor, The Kingdom, Battleship, and Hancock. He also scripted Friday Night Lights and The Losers.
Earlier this year, Director Berg reportedly mentioned that Hancock 2 will happen, however the storyline with the sequel is presenting a big challenge. Hancock, as seen in the first installment of the film, is an invincible immortal. The struggle is finding a "kryptonite" that will weaken or destroy Hancock. This presents the question of where writers can take this character and how to progress with the story.
In casting news, while Will Smith and Charlize Theron are sure to star, there are no official confirmations yet, however, if Jason Bateman will still be part of the cast despite his very important role as Ray Embrey in the first movie. Also, rumors then and there start to rise with regards to whether Hancock 2 will be a prequel or a sequel, as it is said that the lead actor Will Smith's son, Jaden Smith, "may" play the role of Hancock in a prequel movie. It is also rumoured that either R&B sensation Beyonce Knowles or Longmire star Irene Bedard may be an addition to the cast as Smith's leading lady. Such rumors erupted from the fact that lots have been congratulating Knowles for the role while Bedard's Facebook posts still seem to show possibilities for the lead role. However, none about the departure of Jason and the casting of Jaden and either Beyonce or Irene was confirmed by Columbia Pictures.
With the directors and screenplay writers all set, much is yet to be anticipated from Columbia Pictures regarding the action-comedy sequel, Hancock 2.
