TVXQ Carries on Seoul Concerts despite MERS Outbreak in Korea; SM Entertainment Takes Preventive Measures to Protect Concert Goers

By

The two-membered band TVXQ continued its plans of holding two-day concert in Seoul, South Korea amidst MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak going on in the country.

The concert entitled "TVXQ! SPECIAL LIVE TOUR - T1ST0RY" will be the duo's last concert together before member Yunho enlists in the army this year, leaving his band partner Changmin to proceed as a solo artist in the meantime.

Due to this fact, the tickets were sold out very fast despite risk of being contaminated with a strain of special coronavirus that apparently causes MERS, a viral respiratory illness that was initially reported in Saudi Arabia back in 2012.

TVXQ agency SM Entertainment announced that they will be taking strict preventive measures in order not to pass the virus during the two-day concert.

Firstly, the fans will not have to wait in line for a long time because the official concert goods and merchandise will be sold online rather than in booths outside the concert venue where people could unnecessarily flock.

Secondly, there will be no cancellation fee charged for people up to the day of the concert who wanted to cancel their tickets in fear of being contaminated with the virus. A professional disinfection company was hired to sterilize major entrances to the concert hall.

In the venue, a heat sensor has been installed at the main entrance gate so that any person caught with an above average temperature will be brought to medical staff on site and restricted from entering the concert.

Additionally, hand sanitizers were made available all throughout the concert hall and medical staff will be available inside the concert for faster response times to medical emergencies.

Lastly, the online ticket distributor Yes24 noticed the fans about further clearing the venue with a special chemical. "We plan to initiate preventative measures by spraying concertgoers with 100% harmless disinfectant," informs the representative.

The management also encouraged the concert goers to put on their masks at all times and avoid forming crowds where transmission can get very high.

TVXQ's two-day concert is currently being held in Olympic Gymnastics Stadium on June 13 and 14. Their junior groups showed support by attending the concert on the first day such as Taemin and Minho of SHINee, Donghae of Super Junior, Wendy of Red Velvet, and many more.
