With former co-star Paul Walker's unexpected departure, there are surely a lot of changes when "Fast and Furious 8" hits theaters in 2017. One of the changes that will definitely surprise its fans and viewers is the rumored love triangle that brews between Eva Mendes' undercover agent Monica Fuentes, Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto and Michelle Rodriguez's Letty Ortiz.
One thing that its die-hard fans are curious is whose relationship will be focused now that the Brian O'Conner-Dominic Toretto tandem seems already unlikely to be featured in the upcoming sequel of the high-speed car racing film. However, recent reports claim that the writers of the film are pursuing a major rift between Dominic Toretto and Letty Ortiz.
According to Youth Health Mag, Eva Mendes ("We Own the Night", "Ghost Rider") is reprising her role as Monica Fuentes in the forthcoming "Furious 8". Mendes' returning character will reportedly be the cause of the Toretto and Ortiz's relationship dilemma.
The 41-year-old actress was first introduced in the franchise when she starred in the 2003 "2 Fast 2 Furious". Mendes appeared in the film as an undercover agent who cooperates with Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) and Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) in taking down a drug lord.
The actress' character, as per Movie News Guide's report, was last featured in the post-credit scene of "Fast Five" wherein she confirmed that Letty Ortiz was still alive in a meeting with Luke Hobbs (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson).
While these are all merely speculations for now, two more actresses are joining the returning cast in "Furious 8". According to Christian Today, mixed martial arts experts Ronda Rousey and Joanna Jedrzejczyk will appear in the sequel. The UFC Bantamweight Champion, Rousey, is known to have starred "Furious 7" last April while Jedzejczyk is a neaw comer to the franchise. Jedzejczyk is currently the UFC Women's Strawweight champion.
"Fast & Furious 8" is set to hit the big screen on April 17, 2017.
