"Gotham" season 2 will add more iconic villains when it returns this fall on FOX this fall. The show has already introduced some famous archenemies of Batman and on its upcoming second season, Mr. Freeze will join the list of villains on the hit series.
"Gotham" has taken a different route from the usual superhero TV series plot where the origin of a superhero is the focal point of the series. The FOX hit series focused instead on the people surrounding young Brue Wayne (David Mazouz) and took James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) as the main protagonist of the show.
Aside from focusing on the early career of Gordon, "Gotham" also highlights the origins of well-known Batman villains including Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) or Penguin, Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) or Cat, and Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) or The Riddler.
Joining the roster of villains in "Gotham" season 2 is Dr. Victor Fries popularly known as Mr. Freeze, as per Cinemablend's report.
Dr. Fries is a cryogenics scientist who wanted to cure his wife's illness when a tragic accident happened that required him to wear a cryogenic suit in order to survive. The site speculates that "Gotham" will include a little twist to the famous villain so it will sit perfectly on the show's timeline.
Aside from Mr. Freeze, executive producer Bruno Heller revealed that Batman's top most iconic enemy will also appear on the show's sophomore season.
Comicbook.com reports that The Joker will appear in season 2 but he will be "pre-embryonic" as described by Heller.
"You're not going to see teases of The Joker before the end of the season, because the beginning of Season Two is a big Joker-oriented, or 'how the Joker came to be' kind of story," Heller said. "The beginning of Season Two is the very earliest origins of how The Joker came to be."
FOX greenlighted "Gotham Season 2" early this year since Dana Walden, FOX Television Group' s CEO admitted that they "love the show" and want the cast members to keep doing what they are doing for the show, reports IGN.
Mr. Freeze is set to appear in FOX's crime drama "Gotham" when it returns for its second season this fall. He will be joining other well-known antagonists on the show including Penguin, Cat, The Riddler, and The Joker.
"Gotham" season 2 is slated for a fall release on FOX.
