The Last Guardian is teased to fans once again, despite it being a bit of a forgotten game already. The first time the title made its debut was in 2009, where it was supposedly being developed for the PS3. However, time passed, slowly at first, and then picked up to today. With Sony's E3 press conference, it brought the game back to life and explains the delay while promising to release the game by next year.
A lot of fans were astounded by how Sony opened their press conference. While the publisher has a lot of famous titles going for it, the one to start the ball running was an announcement on The Last Guardian. This was an unexpected move, with a number of gamers not even sure what the game is all about. Initially, the game was being made for the PS3. As years passed, it became a planned title for the PS4 in 2012 instead.
From the debut that happened in 2009, supporters of the work of Fumito Ueda, who played a part in creating Shadow of the Colossus and Ico on PS2, were eagerly waiting for The Last Guardian.
Shuhei Yoshida, who is the head of Sony's game development, explained the slow progress for the title as he said, "In 2011 the progress became super slow. There were lots of technical issues. The game was not performing at speed." A few other issues were mentioned, but it is clear that there are still a lot of bugs in the game which is why it never became ready for a timely release.
Yoshida explained that the arrival of PS4 led to more potential in developing The Last Guardian. Despite the fact that Ueda already left Sony, he is still a part of the development process particularly in the direction of animation, art, and game design, as noted in a recent report.
The Last Guardian has a scheduled release window, which is sometime in 2016. It will now be playable in the PS4, where Sony and its main developers are confident that the game will be very exciting and worth the wait for fans.
