EXO-M's currently only active member Lay reaches out to fans and asked them to not hate him while on a pre-recording of their most recent repackaged album "Love Me Right" at M! Countdown.
Zhang Yixing, most commonly known with his stage name Lay, grabbed the opportunity to speak directly to the fans saying, "I have many things I want to say [to fans.] It's been a long time since I met everyone and [I'm] very happy to be able to record with the members after a long period of time. Because I've missed many [promotional] activities, I hope you all will not hate me."
Lay's intention, however, was not received well by some of the fans at the music show. Korean Netizens who detested the Chinese members of EXO for leaving the group starting last year commented, "For all of "Call Me Baby" promos, he was in China and the first thing he says when he gets back to Korea is "don't hate me"? F*ck, I don't think he realizes what he needs to be saying right now. He should be apologizing, not asking people to not hate him. He should be saying sorry for not promoting with the group. How can he be this selfish and greedy. So he wants his own profit but also doesn't want people hating him for it?"
They also accused Lay of being a "sly fox" attempting to manipulate the fans' minds.
"He's really quite a sly fox. He knows that there are a lot of young fans in Korea so if he acts sad and tries to gain their sympathy, they'll start supporting him again. Meanwhile in China he goes out to eat with the two traitors and gets his own image going and he manipulates SM into getting his own studio while still getting a cut of EXO's profits. What a comfortable life for him," upvoted the fans in social media.
Lay became the receiving end of the seemingly unified rage of EXO's Korean fans against the Chinese members since he is the only Chinese left promoting with the rest of EXO. The said hate intensified with him missing promotions for "EXODUS" two months ago because of his activities in China and being granted his own personal studio that none of the rest of EXO-K members have obtained yet.
Amidst all the hate, Lay professed his love and concern for EXO and even wrote a song called "The Promise" that was included in "Love Me Right" repackaged album. The lyrics of the said track signify the events that have happened with EXO in 2014.
