Square Enix finally unveiled the trailer of the all new Kingdom Hearts 3 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) on June 15, 2015. Aside from the colourful, action packed trailer, it also revealed some new details as well.
According to Director Tetsuya Nomura, a primary conflict would be brought to an end in Kingdom Hearts 3, but not the whole game series itself. "Only the particular enemy they have been fighting the past 10 years will come to an end," he clarified.
From the trailer itself, one can notice the fusion between the realms of Final Fantasy and Disney, maintaining a magical, cartoonish, and colourful environment. The graphics have been enhanced as everything looked to be vibrant. Then two young boys are shown, believed to be the younger versions of Xehanort and Eraqus, discussing about the Keyblade War while playing chess. As the gameplay is shown, it can be noticed that Disney's Tangled would be the latest addition to the themed levels.
Impressive new features and character skills were revealed in the trailer. New magic animations were created for combat and now, characters are able to perform a spell while gliding. Also, Kingdom Hearts 3 features larger maps, as it is shown in the trailer that a character can jump off a cliff and be able to land on lower depths. Such action is impossible in the game's predecessors for they are all bordered and sectioned with invisible walls. Weapon switching was also speculated as a new ability by the characters as Sora is shown in the trailer to be able to switch his Keyblade into a gun and later on, into a canon. On the other hand, separate Keyblades are given its unique functions and modifications. Ice Spell ability known as the Ice Slice was also shown while it is also noticeable that all summons shown were amusement park themed, such as boat and rollercoaster summons. The trailer's last tagline was: "There's more to light than meets the eye," with reference to Xehanort's Darkness theme.
Square Enix' Kingdom Hearts 3 shall be playable on Play Station 4 and Xbox One. No release date, however, was announced.
