'Kick Ass 3' Update: Matthew Vaughn Returns To Franchise; Director Reveals Plans For 'Hit-Girl' Prequel Before Film's Part 3

By

"Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaughn may have left the director's seat in the second installment of the franchise but the original helmer of the superhero film is slated to make a huge comeback with two more projects in store for the "Kick-Ass" universe. Vaughn has recently revealed two additional movies in the franchise, one of which is a "Hit-Girl" prequel.

It was noted by Comic Book the Matthew Vaughn passed the directorial baton to Jeff Wedlow for "Kick-Ass 2" which was not well-received. Now, Vaughn is returning to save the franchise with a recently-revealed plan of making a prequel about Chloe Moretz' ("Carrie", "If I Stay") character, Hit Girl, which is predicted to open the doors for "Kick-Ass 3".

"I'm not happily done with the franchise," Vaughn stated in an interview with Yahoo. "We're working on an idea for a prequel of how did Hit-Girl and Big Daddy become Hit-Girl and Big Daddy."

According to him, the idea of the prequel was "fun" which will hopefully resuscitate the franchise from the people who hated its latest installment. "Kick-Ass 2" was noted to fail in outdoing its predecessor -both in critical reception and box-office. If the planned spinoff will be as successful as it is expected, Vaughn says "Kick-Ass 3" will then be produced next.

"It's a really strong, really simple prequel where I think we can regain the love and the passion," the filmmaker explained. "If that happens, I'm pretty sure I can persuade Aaron [Taylor-Johnson] and Chloe [Grace Moretz] to come back and finish the story of 'Kick-Ass' with 'Kick-Ass 3.'"

Moretz, as reported by Cinema Blend last year, said she was already done playing Hit Girl's character. Also considering her age now, it seems like Vaughn's plan of having her back is unlikely to happen unless he chooses to recast the actress with a younger one which is more appropriate to the role. Vaughn is hopeful that this plan will work to save the franchise.

Do you think Moretz would still make a good and effective "Hit-Girl"? Would you like to see Vaughn's planned projects, or is "Kick-Ass 2" already enough for you?
