This past weekend, Taylor Swift took to her blog on Tumblr her thoughts on Apple Music's marketing strategy. She wrote a lengthy note about how the people from the music industry will suffer if they will go unpaid when Apple Music would start its three-month free trial offer. Apple then immediately decided to change their policy.
Taylor Swift is really one of a kind celebrity with undoubtedly amazing influence on people who listen to her music. Recently, Swift was on headlines for 'literally saving the lives of three teens' when it had a car accident. And just over the weekend, Swift made another thing to put her on headlines again - she just made Apple reverse its decision from paying nothing to struggling music artists to of course giving royalties to artists during Apple Music's three-month free trial.
Part of Taylor Swift's letter was "We know how astronomically successful Apple has been and we know that this incredible company has the money to pay artists, writers and producers for the 3 month trial period... even if it is free for the fans trying it outThree months is a long time to go unpaid, and it is unfair to ask anyone to work for nothing." Apple's senior executive Eddy Cue personally called Taylor Swift, saying they had changed their policy regarding Apple Music.
Eddy Cue also gave a statement on Apple Music's strategy, saying "We had originally negotiated these deals based on paying them a higher royalty rate on an ongoing basis to compensate for this brief time. But when I woke up this morning and saw what Taylor had written, it really solidified that we needed to make a change."
Other reports statest that it wasn't just Taylor Swift who made a move about Apple's policy. "It wasn't just Taylor Swift. There was a huge chunk of the indie label community that was simply not willing to let Apple have a free pass," explained Casey Rae of the Future of music Coalition.
