'Modern Family' Season 7 Update: Series Gets Honored In '6 Certified' List; Show's Creator Talks About Boring Jokes And Comedy Writing

By

An advocacy group called Got Your 6 has released their first "6 Certified" list of the T.V. shows and movies that portray the lives of military veteran spot-on. The sitcom "Modern Family" has been part of the list as the ABC show is a sitcom about the patriarch that once served the Navy.

In a report by Army Times, "Modern Family" was chosen because of Jay Pritchett, played by Ed O'Neill, being able to use the character's former service to add another level of depth and color to the characterization that he plays.

Aside from "Modern Family," other series such as "Hawaii Five-0," "Dancing With The Stars," "Amira and Sam," and "The Night Shift" were also listed. The high-grossing movie entitled "American Sniper" was also part of the "6 Certified" list as it was about SEAL Chris Kyle and his work as a sharp shooter in the army while at war in the Middle East.

Chris Marvin, the executive group of the group, said in a statement that the "6 Certified" list hopes to recognize the shows and movies that portray the veterans reasonably and accurately in order to help shift how people see veterans across the United States, Breitbart shared.

The list was reportedly chosen by a panel of military and entertainment experts that have studied the movies and T.V. shows that were shortlisted for the said honorary "6 Certified."

Meanwhile, the creator of "Modern Family," Chris Lloyd, talked about writing for the show that was launched six years ago. He noted that the characters of the ABC series have started very young and he is challenged to write about their characters that have been the same people since the start of the show, The Hollywood Reporter shared.

The showrunner also talked about how his writing changed in terms of comedy in order to adapt to what the audience wants. He shared, "Viewers have become a little bit savvier because they've been saturated with so much comedy over the years. It's just not that shocking to talk about penises or vaginas, and poop jokes are just not that clever."

"Modern Family" Season 7 will be aired later this year but no definite release date has been announced yet.
