Avril Lavigne is well on her way on the road to recovery. The 30-year-old Canadian singer got teary-eyed and emotional when she sat down for an interview with Good Morning America to give an update on her battle with Lyme Disease.
In the interview with Good Morning America, Avril Lavigne broke down in tears as she shared to the rest of the world the illness that left her bedridden for months since she was diagnosed in December 2013.
"This is my second shot at life," the singer shared.
The singer also revealed that she was halfway through her treatment and that she is seeing a lot of progress in her condtion. She is determined to make a 100% full recovery.
The debilitating disease is caused by a tick bite, which Lavigne believes she was bitten in the spring of 2013 while she was visiting her home in Ontario. The early symptoms of Lyme Disease are almost non-specific and could include headache, joint pain, fatigue, tingling in the legs and fever.
She also claimed that she did visit several doctors, all of which misdiagnosed her. The singer claimed that she would wake up at night all sweaty, exhausted and unable to move.
"I literally became bedridden last October and I was in Los Angeles and it was like, literally the worst time of my life," she continued.
The singer finally saw a Lyme specialist after being called "crazy" by some doctors. Her mom and husband Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger helped her through her trying times. The singer now plans to return to the stage by July.
"There is hope... and you can get better," Lavigne said. "I think, for me, it's like a second shot at life. I want to go out there and truly do what I love. So I'm so excited for life after this."
Avirl Lavigne's hopes of recovering ang getting back to the music industry remains to be optimistic. As of the moment, she is thankful for the continuous prayers and supports that her fans are giving her in this very trying time in her life.
