Is Android M update for Nexus devices- Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 (2012) possible? Google released statements that they are not allowing any software update to any Nexus phone that is two years old and beyond, however, rumors suggest that with some changes, these phones could actually receive the latest operating system update.
If the reports will be proven true, Nexus owners of the said gadgets could now enjoy the latest software to their old phones. This could be contrary to the earlier report of Android Police. According to the site, Android M update for Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 (2012) would be something beyond the reality.
In addition, the site claimed that not all present Nexus handset and tablet owners could get the update.
They added quoting their credible sources as saying, "Google will only allow main upgrades to Nexus devices for two years, and security patches for three years from an Android version's release date. Security patches will be guaranteed for at least 18 months after a purchase in the Google Play Store (whichever timeframe is longer will be applicable)."
However, things are now becoming clearer. After a fresh update to AOSP repositories for the Nexus 10 (manta), mako (Nexus 4) and grouper (Nexus 7 2012 WiFi version), Little Green Dude claimed that there's "android-m-preview" and a "valid commit" (code update) tag as of May 28 indicating that these devices could receive the latest Android M update.
As it has been usual that Nexus receives the newest Android updates, speculations suggest that Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 (2012) devices could be soon receiving the upgrade right after Google's release of Android M update, Tech Times reports.
The new software was released by Google in the I/O developer's conference in May. Android M update is slated to be available by the third quarter of this year and is expected to offer improved features including a new app drawer, a new power and a new charging function called Doze.
