Blade Runner 2 is coming up and names have been linked to the film that might fill in the highly anticipated list of cast and crew. Denis Villeneuve, who is set to direct the film, shared how he feels about sitting in the director's chair and working with Roger Deakins once again.
Blade Runner was one of the highly acclaimed Hollywood films that most film enthusiast consider as one of their all-time favorites. And following the announcement that a sequel is coming up, many have been wondering as to the details about the cast and most especially the plot. While those details have not been divulged yet, Harrison Ford had been reported to reprise his role as Rick Deckard, and actor Ryan Gosling is said to be taking on a lead role.
Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Incendies) is set to direct the movie, while Oscar-nominated cinematographer, Roger Deakins, is responsible for the cinematography. Blade Runner 2 will be the two's third collaboration after Prisoners (2013), and Sicario (which is to be released later this year).
About Blade Runner 2, Villeneuve revealed that he's looking forward to making the movie with Deakins,
"Yeah, I know. It's something that I knew about [for] a while, obviously, and I was looking forward [to when] it would be announced. For me, it's so exciting. Roger and I have been dreaming to make a sci-fi movie since the first day we met. He is really, really excited about the project. For me, he is my biggest ally, and honestly, I know doing it with him the movie will look astonishing. It is very exciting to do that with him." Villeneuve said in an interview.
Villeneuve also revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he feels pressured in directing the Blade Runner sequel and added that directing the sequel is the biggest challenge of his life.
"I took the decision after much thinking. I'm aware of the massive pressure I will have on my shoulders doing this. But first, I'm a massive fan of the first Blade Runner. It's one of my favorite movies of all time, and I'm a huge fan of Ridley Scott's work. When I read the script, I felt it was so strong and so inspiring, I was not able to say no. I said, "All right, let's do it," and I have Ridley Scott's blessing. I know I can do it, but honestly, it's a big challenge. It's the biggest challenge of my life." he said.
Blade Runner 2 will be based on the screenplay by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, which was based on Fancher and Ridley Scott's idea. Scott, who directed the first film, will be producing the sequel along with Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove, Bud Yorkin, and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin, while Tim Gamble and Frank Giustra will serve as executive producers. No release date has been announced yet, although, principal photography for the film is set to begin on summer 2016.
