‘Suicide Squad’ Official Trailer Released After Comic Con Leak; Harley Quinn’s Backstory Possibly Explored in New Film

By

The long awaited superhero film Suicide Squad's official trailer has finally been released online by Warner Bros. on July 13, 2015 after some exclusive Comic Con footage was leaked all over the internet.

Director David Ayer decided that it was about time he gave followers a peek at what to expect for the upcoming third installment of the DC Comics' shared universe franchise.Scenes from the trailer introduced several major characters included in the film while several talks hinted at a possibility of Harley Quinn's possible backstory.

The film's premise lies on an assembled group of incarcerated criminals - assassins, supervillains, psychos - each with unique abilities, skills and even superhuman powers deemed valuable by the United States government.

The group, aptly named the Suicide Squad, operates under the watchful eye of Amanda Waller and is tasked at high risk black ops in exchange for pardon. It's basically bad guys against worse guys. The characters are pulled straight from DC Comics. It is particularly interesting that Harley Quinn, who is not an original character in the comic books, would have a possible backstory in the film.

According to Cinema Blend, some movie footage revealed a gagged woman in a doctor's lab coat being strapped to a table with Joker bearing down on her. It was presumed to be Dr. Harleen Quinzel a.k.a. Harley Quinn before she became Joker's right-hand accomplice. It would be no surprise if this was finally confirmed since vicious, insane, and alluring Harley Quinn was all over the disturbing new trailer.

It will certainly be a big year for Australian actress Margot Robbie who plays Harley Quinn. In an article by Elle.com, she has a big line up of movies coming up including a reboot of Tarzan where she will be portraying the famous Jane. The cover girl even talked about the pet rat given to her by Suicide Squad co-star Jared Leto who plays Joker on set.

Of course, where would the Suicide Squad be without Joker? It isn't unexpected that comparisons between Leto's character and of the late Heath Ledger's have begun spreading like wildfire among movie buffs and comic book loyalists. In a report by The Independent, fans set a deluge on twitter after the trailer's release with contrasting opinions on who can play the infamous madman best.

Suicide Squad will premiere in theaters on August 5, 2016 with an all-star cast including Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, and Cara Delevingne among others.
