‘Warcraft’ Movie Footage Leaks Right After Debut at San Diego Comic Con; Duncan Jones Talks Film's Important Highlights

By

The 'Warcraft' movie footage was leaked after its debut at the San Diego Comic Con. This was similar to the case of other film previews that also managed to appear unofficially online. Other highlights of the cast and crew's visit last July 11, 2015 include the release of the film's first exclusive posters and official logo as well as character reveals.

The movie's director and co-writer Duncan Jones presented material for the World of Warcraft adaptation during the Legendary Pictures media preview at the recent fan convention. According to Slash Film, Jones aimed to create a movie for everyone and not just the popular game's loyal fans.

He said, "We wanted to make a film which everyone would be interested in beyond the Warcraft audience, a similar challenge to Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies, which had to appeal to non-Tolkien fans. We're hoping we can do the same."

In an article by PC Mag, the inevitable happened when the five-minute trailer exclusive only for Comic Con attendees was immediately leaked online despite its official large scale release scheduled for November which was announced through Jones' Twitter account. Despite this, curious fans won't likely find these bootleg copies now, thanks to NBC Universal's fast response of pulling them off the internet. One can find numerous reports with descriptions of the footage, though.

According to Screen Rant, Jones described the very foundation of the film as more than battles between men and orcs. He defined it as "A war story where you show heroes from both sides, and how they come into conflict because of a situation that they can't find a way to avoid."

Best known for two award-winning science fiction films on Jones' cinematic resume ('Moon' and 'Source Code'), audiences may hope for visual storytelling that can capture the essence of the very foundation envisioned for the film.

Character art and posters of the two main protagonists were also debuted at Comic Con - one of Durotan, the orc leader of the Horde to be played by actor Toby Kebbell and another of Sir Anduin Lothar, a human knight for the Alliance to be played by actor Travis Fimmel.

'Warcraft' is an epic fantasy-adventure film based on the World of Warcraft games created by Blizzard Entertainment. It is scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on June 10, 2016.
