Wonder Woman writer Grant Morrison didn't seem to agree with Gal Gadot's depiction of the superhero in the latest 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' trailer. Director Zack Snyder as well as the other cast and crew of the upcoming film attended the recent San Diego Comic Con last weekend where the official trailer was released.
The writer, who is currently working on a graphic novel entitled 'Wonder Woman: Earth One' of the DC Comics Series, was quick to criticize the female crusader he saw being portrayed in the preview footage.
According to Nerdist, he said, "I don't want to do this warrior woman thing. I can understand why they're doing it, I get all that, but that's not what [Wonder Woman creator] William Marston wanted, that's not what he wanted at all!"
Morrison didn't lambast Gadot personally. To put his words into context, he was referring to how different the movie character was from the original concept by Marston.
He went on to add, "His original concept for Wonder Woman was an answer to comics that he thought were filled with images of blood-curdling masculinity, and you see the latest shots of Gal Gadot in the costume, and it's all sword and shield and her snarling at the camera. Marston's Diana was a doctor, a healer, a scientist. So I went back to those roots and just built it up again."
In an article by NPR, it was revealed that Marston created Wonder Woman to be the ultimate feminist icon. One of his influences was his interest in the Women's Suffrage Movement. This lead to the creation of a female comic book superhero when he realized these were dominated by male lead characters.
Gadot, on the other hand, couldn't feel luckier after being given such a big role. According to The Daily Mail, she said, "[Wonder Woman] is the ultimate symbol of strength. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd grow up to be in a movie playing someone who influenced as many women as she has."
'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' will be released on March 25, 2016. Gadot will star alongside Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill. She will also appear in her solo film, 'Wonder Woman', slated for release on June 23, 2017.
