Tom Cruise is reprising his role of Lieutenant Maverick in the long-awaited sequel "Top Gun 2". However the "Edge of Tomorrow" actor wants Prince Harry to appear in the upcoming film as well, saying his military practice offers "real experience and knowledge of flying in combat".
The long-awaited sequel to the ever-quotable 1986 fast-mover flick is finally prepping up for takeoff, with Tom Cruise officially on board. Christian Today reports that the 53-year-old actor is officially playing the role of Lieutenant Pete "Maverick" Mitchell once again for "Top Gun 2". But alongside his appearance, the actor also wants a British Royal to star in the highly anticipated movie.
The Daily Star first claimed that Cruise is eyeing Prince Henry of Wales, also known as Prince Harry, to play a role in the upcoming sequel. The story has surfaced when an American casting agent revealed that Cruise has sent his team to Buckingham Palace to get the offer to Prince Harry. According to the agent, having the prince could benefit the movie. "He doesn't just want Harry as a gimmick casting but someone who offers real experience and knowledge of flying in combat," the insider said.
It was noted that Prince Harry had been on the front line in Helmand, Afghanistan with the British Army back in 2008. The agent cites this as Prince Harry's credentials to stand tall in the upcoming movie. "Not only is Harry qualified but his involvement would be a huge PR coup for the movie," he said.
As previously reported, "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" writer Justin Marks is currently working on the screenplay of the film. No director is set yet for "Top Gun 2" but with Tom Cruise back in the skies in uniform and aviators once again, the forthcoming sequel is sure to be a hit.
