'Power Rangers', the much awaited reboot of the 1995 movie 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' will be released January 13, 2017 - more than two decades after its predecessor's debut on the big screen. This was a big screen adaptation of the beloved live action children's television series of the early 1990s with the same name. Details of the upcoming modern retelling of the superhero adventure story continue to be kept tightly under wraps, but several sources cited potential plots and spoilers as well as release dates.
According to Heroic Hollywood, sources stated that the famous 'Power Rangers' villain Rita Repulsa will be back to wreak havoc on Earth. In the exclusive report, the upcoming movie will open with a scene with main antagonist Rita Repulsa fighting off Zordon together with the period's first Power Rangers.
Its main story will be taken from the original plot of 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' which revolves around a group of teenagers chosen to protect the world from evil alien invaders. They are given the ability to morph into warriors with super powers and trained to manipulate giant robots called Zords.
In an earlier IGN interview with director Dean Israelite, the reboot's overall tone was revealed. Although he couldn't say much about the actual plot, he described what loyal fans of the franchise would come to expect.
He said, "I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way... So I think it's going to be a fun, joyful [movie] but one that feels completely grounded in a real world, with real characters going through real things."
He went on to say that they are still in the works for design work for the reimagined world.
Casting is currently a well-guarded secret. Although Saban Brands and Lionsgate still has yet to confirm which actors will be joining the 'Power Rangers' cast. According to Cross Map, big Hollywood names may be set to play key characters in the film. Industry favorites such as Meryl Streep, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen and Chloe Grace Moretz have been approached.
'Power Rangers' 2017 remake will relive the adventures of Jason, Kimberly, Trini, Zack and Billy - a fictional group of teenagers - who went on to become part of the of the pop culture icons of the 1990s. As a television series, it aired in the United States for three seasons from August 1993 to November 1995. It also generated two theatrical motion pictures in 1995 and 1997. The franchise soon spanned home media releases, comic book series as well as video games.
