Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 are among the flagship smartphones in the world to receive first the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop over-the-air (OTA) update. Sony has just announced the good news that Z2 and Z3's operating system are getting dressed anew beginning end of July.
As slated to bring in some tweaks and improvements, Sony through their official blog site The Xperia Blog confirmed the OTA update to hit Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 variants as well.
D6502 and D6503 models of Xperia Z2 and the D6653 model of Xperia Z3 will receive the latest Android firmware installation with version code 23.4.A.0.546. The Xperia Z2 Tablet with model code SGP521 and some variants of Xperia Z3 including Z3 Dual with model code D6633 and Z3 Compact variants with model codes D508 and D5833 are also joining the software update.
The Xperia Blog however that the Android 5.1.1 OTA update will come out in phases for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 variants with only a few Sony devices will kick off the update.
Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 owners will be notified automatically once the Android 5.1.1 update is made available to handsets. Otherwise, owners can manually check the update by heading over to Settings > System updates > Check for update. Sony warned that the update is best done with a strong Wi-Fi connection since Android 5.1.1 is a bit heavy.
There is not an ample amount of information as to the tweaks and improvements that Android 5.1.1 update will bring in with Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3. Nevertheless, reports point that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi will be the new options added in the notification menu. New animations will also be showcased, plus refreshed looks of some icons in the Setting menu.
Meanwhile, the Xperia Blog earlier reported that Sony has rolled out the new Android M Developer Preview build for a good of Xperia devices, including Xperia T3, Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia M2, Xperia E3, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
According to a report, when Android M's final version gets released before the year ends, Sony Xperia devices are likely to receive it first.
