Mallrats 2 which is now called Mallbrats is in the works and might even start filming soon. Kevin Smith posted on Instagram the possible location for the movie, and hinted that the movie will include the return of the majority of the cast.

Director Kevin Smith confirmed its details in the latest San Diego Comic Con that the sequel to the hit 90s film will officially be called Mallbrats. According to Smith a deal is currently being worked on between him and Universal, So hopefully in October we're rolling," he said. "We're still doing the deal with Universal but knock wood man," he added.

Although it has not been 100 percent officially confirmed Smith revealed that he's hoping to gather all the original cast members for the sequel. But aside from the old characters, Smith also revealed that new characters will also be introduced in the upcoming movie.

"It mixes, like how many are there, there are like 18 characters from 'Mallrats' coming back and 17 are like 'I'm in.' I haven't asked the other guy yet. So then we bring in a few more characters, so it's going to be cool. It's like a 20-year later thing and the mall's dying, it's going to be fun," Smith said.

Meanwhile, reports now suggest that the film might be shot in the Delaware County after Smith posted a photo of him and his daughter outside the Granite Run Mall. "Come October, this might be the Mall, y'all... #MR2#MallBrats #DelCo" he captioned the photo.

Filming for Mallrats 2 might begin during the last quarter of the year, Brian O'Halloran who played the role of Gill in the original film has revealed during Comic Con through The Comic Book Cast where he said that "filming begins sometime in November if things go according to schedule".

Smith will be back to direct and write Mallrats 2 now titled Mallbrats while official cast on board includes Jason Lee, Shannen Doherty, and Jeremy London among many others. No exact release date has been announced yet, but more details about the movie is expected to be revealed in the coming months.
