'Manhattan' season 1 had feature events during July 1943- 61 countries were at war and more than 40 million casualties were tallied. In the middle of the New Mexico desert, scientists were fast at work on a top secret project that could end the war and kill millions.

According to the Deadline, Season 2 will see Frank Winter and his crew as they get closer to development of an atomic bomb. It will focus on the events leading up to Trinity test: the first detonation of an atomic weapon, which happened 70 years ago this week, as teased from the released first photos of 'Manhattan' season 2.

All these events will be seen soon, as Zap2it reports that 'Manhattan' season 2 premieres October 13, at 9 p.m. on WGN America. It is said that "the new season of "Manhattan" will once again take viewers inside the world's most secretive city where, locked away, the scientists and their families surrender their freedoms, compromise their marriages, and even sacrifice their sanity to end one war and usher in another - the Cold War waiting just over the atomic horizon - all while embedded spies and a climate of paranoia threaten to destroy the project from within."

Aside from the New Mexico setting, 'Manhattan' season 2 will add a number of new characters when it returns this fall. Mamie Gummer joins the cast as a spy named Nora sharing secrets with the Soviets; Griffin Dunne will play a journalist who gets on the trail of the project; and William Petersen play the religious Colonel Emmett Darrow, a man convinced that atomic bombs are God's will.
