'Fifty Shades Darker' may just be around the corner with a confirmed big screen release on February 20, 2017. New characters will be introduced in the second movie including Anastasia Steele's obsessed boss, Jack Hyde. Henry Cavill recently poked fun at this supposed casting finally ending rumors saying otherwise. Fans are also treated to more speculation about how the follow-up may be darker and more explicit than the first.
According to The Mirror, the British actor finally ended rumors about him joining the cast of the BDSM-themed movie after admitting to USA Today that he just went along with rumors that he was cast as Jack. He merely did it for laughs. He said, "I'm not in 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' I'm for real. I'm just messing with everyone."
The hot rumor began after Cavill reportedly told E! News in a prior interview, "Basically what I can say is I can't say anything about it right now." Apparently, the 'Man of Steel' star has gotten fed up with the joke and decided to end it once and for all. It brought to mind similar instances when people didn't believe him after he also denied reports that he was cast as Christian Grey.
In the second film adapted from the book of the same name, Jack is a publishing editor and boss to Ana. He becomes obsessed with her making Christian jealous and overprotective. This is only one of the many entanglements the characters get into making the book more of a thriller compared to its predecessor, which delved more on the romantic side of Ana and Christian's relationship.
According to Movie News Guide, 'Fifty Shades Darker' may be more explicit than the first with several additional BDSM elements that would need to be left in books despite aiming for an R-rating. The book also involved inappropriate dialogue and backstories that may be deemed too much for the big screen.
Another article by Movie Pilot, the film franchise's creative team may be in a bit of a bind when it comes to taming down the book's graphic material just like what they did in 'Fifty Shades of Grey'. The obvious direction would be to alter the original text and message of the literary best seller and portray what best they could do on screen so as not to offend the masses. In a practical sense however, production may be moving towards avoiding too much of a high film rating as this could lessen mass appeal leading to lesser profit.
'Fifty Shades Darker' is an upcoming film in the trilogy based on the novels by E.L. James. The first film was a commercial success earning $569 million in the box office despite having mixed reviews.
