‘Half Life 3’ Update: Rumors Game Under Development, Game Writer Denies ‘Mass Effect 3’ Backlash Affected ‘Half Life 3’

"Half Life 3" has become the holy grail of the gaming industry with fans hoping for and eagerly anticipating its release. Several rumors about the game have surfaced in the past which even included a leaked "Half Life 3" logo, among others. And now, the latest news about the game revolves around a video clip that tells game fans why "Half-Life 3" will not be released.

On Friday, July 24, the Youtube channel The Know shared what it knows about "Half Life 3" based on reports they received from their sources. The channel titled their video clip as "Half-Life 3 Will Never Release, Here's Why" and cited three reason why the game will not be released. The first was a mix of both good and sad news, with The Know reporters sharing that a small team of ten were reportedly working on the game. The sad part was that despite "Half Life 3" having its own dedicated team, Valve Corporation reportedly has no plans to release the third installment anytime soon.

The company is reportedly making enough money from Steam and other micro-transactions that it does not need the additional resources that "Half Life 3" will bring in. The Metro noted that this may be a viable reason given the popularity of Valve's free-to-play games such as Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2.

The last reason cited by the The Know described Valve being wary of how "Half Life 3" will be received by fans given the backlash that "Mass Effect 3" received from gamers a few years back. This particular rumor was shot down by Valve's Marc Laidlaw who also wrote previous "Half Life" game titles, Forbes reported. Laidlaw reportedly responded to a fan's email about the recent rumors. The game writer wrote, "I can't comment on Valve's internal process, but it sounds like someone is trolling. Anonymous sources have been posting speculation masquerading as inside knowledge since the Half-Life 1 delay in 1997. If it's any comfort, please rest assured that in my experience at Valve, fear is the last thing that would ever drive a decision about what to work on."

Neither of these rumors were denied or confirmed by Valve Corporation. Still, die-hard fans are hoping game developers will release "Half Life 3."
