Just days after Snoop Doog was arrested in Sweden for possession of illegal drugs, Italian police stopped the American rapper at Lamerzia Terme airport after trying to board a plane bound for Britain with more than $US422,000 in undeclared cash stuffed in his Louis Vuitton bag.
After the singer- rapper's two show performances in the South Italy, he was on his way to the United Kingdom, where he is about to take the stage at the Kendall Calling Festival, according to local media reports.
The Associated Press posted on Twitter that after stopping him on Saturday as he was boarding a private plane, Italian police seized half of the $US422,000 under money laundering laws of the country. During a security check before the "Drop It Like It's Hot" rapper boarded his private plane, police saw two bags full of $US422, 0000 cash.
In the European Union, a traveller only allowed to carry 10,000 euros of undeclared cash on boarding a plane. Snoop Dogg who has been actually touring Europe after the release of his album entitled "Bush" earlier this year, will have to pay a fine for his action, as mentioned by his lawyer, Andrea Parisi.
Parisi added in Reuters on Saturday, "We clarified everything from a legal point of view. " She also mentioned that Dogg actually gained his money through his concert performances and that no crime was committed. It was just an administrative infraction.
As reported last week, Snoop Dogg was also stopped because of suspicion of possessing illegal drugs by the cops in Uppsala, Sweden. The rapper then, justified himself and called the police acts as racial profiling since the Swedish police has not yet revealed the results of his drug test, as mentioned on BBC UK.
Although half of his cash was given back to him, the other half is still being held by the Italian authorities until the amount of his fine is clearly determined. The American artist just cooperated with the Italian police and only asked if he could leave as soon as possible for his London concert to perform in the Kendall Calling festival. He has not responded with his detention and his latest whereabouts are not yet confirmed.
