‘Spider-Man’ Updates: Film's new storyline revealed by writers; Jake Gyllenhaal talks about losing Spider-Man, Batman roles

'Spider-Man' writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein revealed that they won't use Peter Parker's origin story but will instead focus on his life in high school. Jake Gyllenhaal also talked about losing the Spider-Man and Batman roles to other actors.

According to Den of Geek, the 'Spider-Man' writers revealed that the masked superhero's origin story will not be repeated again in the new reboot. It seems the pair are working on a new perspective on the teenage life of Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man. Goldstein said during the Andy Greenwald Podcast, "I think that everybody feels like you know he got bit by a spider and you know Uncle Ben died, and we probably don't need to revisit that."

Daley confirmed by saying, "I think it'll be a fun departure from the Peter Parker you've seen... where now he is truly a kid and I think the stakes are increased in that his struggle through high school is very real and isn't just a sort of side note. It matters now".

In another report by Comicbook.com, the script will be more focused on Peter Parker in high school. Daley revealed in Entertainment Tonight that the approach is likened to a storyline in John Hughes films in the 1980s.

He said, "It's sort of a John Hughes-ian take at Peter in high school... I think we're going to spend a lot more time on them in High School, and deal with him being a real kid." His co-writer agreed adding that since young actor Tom Holland had been cast in the title role, they would create a plot more suited to Spider-Man's growing up years.

The 2002 release of 'Spider-Man' featured a more mature Spider-Man played by Tobey Maguire under the direction of Sam Raimi. It garnered commercial success and several accolades, which prompted producers to shell out two more sequels. According to Cinema Blend, actor Jake Gyllenhaal was one of those considered for the heavyweight role.

When Maguire couldn't make it to the Spider-Man 2 filming due to sustained back injuries, Gyllenhaal was tagged as a replacement. However, Maguire eventually returned to reprise his role. He was also considered to play Batman but he lost it to Christian Bale. These set-backs didn't deter the former one bit.

Gyllenhaal said to Daily Mail UK, "I believe whatever happens, happens for good. I was definitely open to both the roles. However at a certain point you realize there is always someone more interesting, talented and ready to do the role. In any case, you are not going to get every role you go for. So you can say I neither rue nor am I thankful for having not worked on these superhero films.'

'Spider-Man' will be the new reboot for the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise under the direction of Jon Watts. It will premiere in theaters on July 28, 2017
