'Spider-Man' will be returning in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28, 2017. The Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures joint project directed by Jon Watts will feature Tom Holland in the lead role. The young actor has also finished filming a cameo for 'Captain America: Civil War'.
According to Marvel.com, Marvel's producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal confirmed casting Holland as the new Spiderman. After a rigorous search, they were impressed by the actor's past performances in 'Wolf Hall' and 'The Impossible'.
Pascal said, "Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we've found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man's story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Watts admired Holland's casting as the new masked web-slinger. He said, "He can be a real high school student. That's why people love Spider-Man. He's the most grounded, relatable of superheroes. And Tom can really do that. He captures that. And he can do a standing back-flip. He's perfect." He also talked about working in collaboration with other creative teams for continuity in films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This may all be very well since Holland will debut in 'Captain America: Civil War' long before the 'Spider-Man' reboot. According to Vulture.com, writer-director Johnathan Goldstein talked about a footage of Holland's cameo in the other Marvel film.
He said, "We hear good things. We might even get to look at the Spidey suit, which is exciting." Several actors, such as Billy Zane and Jason Biggs, are also speculated to join the cast for the reboot as villains. John Francis Daley, Goldstein's writing partner for 'Spider-Man', admitted, "We've discussed certain characters but nothing is certain yet, for sure."
There have also been rumors about a supposed leak of Spider-Man's new suit, but these were quickly dismissed as fakes by Cosmicbooknews.com.
'Spider-Man' will be a reinterpretation of the fictional superhero from the Marvel comics to be introduced in the already expanding MCU. In the past, there have already been several films featuring Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man including those with Toby Maguire or Andrew Garfield playing the lead role.
