Fans of the hugely popular action adventure horror game "The Last of Us" were happy to hear that Naughty Dog is reportedly working on a sequel for the game. Given the scarcity of details surrounding the game, fans are now speculating about the storyline and the characters to be featured in "The Last of Us 2."
It was voice actor Nolan North who spilled the news about game developers working on "The Last of Us 2." According to Gamerant, during the Q&A panel at MetroCon held last month, Nolan was asked if he had other projects with Naughty Dog after "Uncharted 4." The voice actor responded that, for the time being, "Uncharted 4" was his final project with the game developers. Nolan continued with his statement by spilling the company's future game plan expansion, saying, "I know they're doing a Last of Us 2."
Although Naughty Dog previously announced plans for the game's sequel, game developers had to put it on hold to give precedence to "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End." However, Nolan's statement managed to excite fans of "The Last of Us," hinting that the game's development may be further along than what developer's would have gamers believe.
More speculations about the sequel's storyline and characters came up, with fans clamoring for the return of beloved characters, Joel and Ellie. The site Movie Pilot suggested that the sequel could feature Tommy, and how the story will revolve around his struggles after the breakout and why he and Joel parted ways.
Another plot suggested is for the game to continue with Ellie as the main character, with Joel potentially dying while trying to save her from the Infected. This game's story could revolve around Ellie fighting to survive, with Joel lying to her about the Fireflies and having her move from place to place. Ellie could then meet other characters and try to convince them that she is immune to infected bites.
Meanwhile, there are also game fans who found the ending of "The Last of Us" perfect and thinks it's unnecessary to have "The Last of Us 2." As pointed out by Highsnobiety, what made "The Last of Us" great was Ellie and Joel's relationship. The game's bleak ending was the "best thing" and the "best possible ending the game could've had," the site stated. It left game fans the power to ultimately imagine the character's fate, and whether the game had a happy ending or not.
Regardless how Naughty Dog would decide to continue on with the game's storyline, "The Last of Us 2" will be one of the highly anticipated titles in the near future.
