The unlikely duo of Ex-CIA agent John Reese (Jim Caviezel) and billionaire Harold Finch (Michael Emerson) will be back for Season 5 of Person of Interest. Unfortunately Season 5 will only have 13 episodes, as oppose to the usual 23 episode per season. Season 5 might also be the final season for the sci-fi crime drama series.
According to TV by the Numbers, the series started strong when it premiered in 22 September with 13.33 million, viewers at 9:00 pm ET Thursday timeslot and has been constantly one of CBS' top drama series until 2013 when ratings decreased from the average of 13 million to 10.58 million viewers from Seasons 3 to 4.The drama received its highest viewership during its Season 2 with 14.28 million viewers on its opening episode.
With the series' unclear future on air, CBS was reported to impose a 13 episode limit for the show, Latin Post indicated. Jonathan Nolan, director of Person of Interest, shared during the Comic-con that some characters might not have their happy endings in the series.
For Season 5, Person of Interest will highlight the reversal of roles between Finch's team and The Machine, Spoiler TV reported. The Machine will require saving from its creator Finch and expert hacker Root (Amy Acker). The Machine was attacked by AI or also known as Samaritan that permanently harmed its system and presently needed to be rebooted.
Season 5 will be true to its storyline as it revolves around Finch restoring The Machine and searching for ways to advance and modify it. Viewers can also identify the changes on The Machine's capabilities as the season progresses. The season will also detail what happened to Shaw (Sarah Shahi) and her whereabouts.
Person of Interest Season 5 will air sometime in first or second quarter of January on CBS. The series was created for television by Jonathan Nolan and Denise Thé is the executive producer for the coming fifth season.
