Leap2 obtained a US$1.6 million financial infusion from corporate investors and individuals headed by Dundee Venture Capital. Wichita Technology Corporation, OpenAir Equity and Linseed Capital are also part of the additional finances. Normally, conducting a search would provide more results that assist advertisers more than users. Leap2 will take the first step to make necessary improvements by designing a new search platform. The new search platform will allow the user to pull in images, web content, local results and even forum results. The new Leap2 Integrated Operating System and Android applications was launched today.
As explained by its founder and CEO, Mike Farmer, "By integrating images and social into search results, users gain perspective on whatever they're searching for." He explains, "We're not in the business of creating sponsored lists. We're empowering users with the information and perspective they need, while adding an element of serendipity to search that creates 'a-ha' moments."
Michael Wetta of Dundee Venture said, "In the past decade, the search experience from a user perspective hasn't evolved, other than the addition of more sponsored links cluttering results. We all use search engines daily, but none of us like digging through long lists of links to get the answer we need. Search is ripe for innovation, and we believe Leap2 is on the right path."
