Ronda Rhimes just talked about the way she cuts off Derek Dempey on Grey's Anatomy on a press tour in Beverly Hills. She said that it's heart- breaking that Dempsey has to leave the show due to a car accident. But when asked to comment about her shows creating diversity in televisions, the creator of the show refused to answer the press.
At the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, the Grey's Anatomy writer and creator broke her silence about the exit of Derek Dempsey's character in the television show, as claimed by Variety. She explained by saying, "The decision to have the character die the way that he did was not a difficult one in the sense that look at the options."
On the decision of killing Dempsey's character, the husband of the TV show's lead Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo was not easy nor fun since the whole cast has been working for a very long time now, as claimed by Entertainment Weekly. She added, "We are family. Those choices and decisions are never easy for us."
On the other side, the exit was not as difficult as it was because she just looked at the options of the character. Either Dempsey has to walk out of Meredith, and leave her high and dry, and what was that going to mean? She answered and said that was going to suggest that the love was not true, the thing they've said for 11 years was just a lie. For Rhimes that was untenable.
She continued, "Meredith and Derek's love had to remain Meredith and Derek's love. Derek would have to die in order for that love to remain honest." Her purpose of killing the character was that it was the only way that she could write Meredith and Derek's love till the end and just so it remains true.
As stated on TV Line, earlier that day, ABC President Paul Lee called Dempsey's death " a difficult decision", before intimating that the exit of his character was a result of Dempsey's passion for race car driving, stating, "He has lots of interests outside of Grey's Anatomy."
But when questioned about her success of shows like "Murder" and "Scandal" had made television a very welcoming place for everybody, Rhimes seemed to decline answering the question despite that it was rephrased and asked again to her. Finally, she responded by saying, "I think it's a lovely thing that you're saying, but I'm not answering that."
While many speculate that this might be the end of the wonderful story of Grey's anatomy since Dr. Derek Shepherd already exited the show, many viewers are still very excited for the next upcoming episodes that would truly prove why many people are hooked to this drama- murder show.
