"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" director J.J. Abrams has recently confirmed that the seventh installment of the epic space opera franchise will not deal with midi-chlorians. The upcoming film is slated to premiere on December 18.
It looks like J.J. Abrams is really distancing his upcoming "Star Wars" film from the prequel trilogy. In an interview with MTV news at the premiere of his produced film "Mission: Impossible -Rogue Nation", the director revealed that the midi-chlorians would not be referenced by anybody in his film. The 49-year-old filmmaker has straightly answered "No" when the outlet's correspondent Josh Horowitz asked if the new film incorporates the said element.
For those who forgot, midi-chlorians were first introduced in "Star Wars: Episode 1 -The Phantom of Menace" to elucidate what The Force is and how it works. As explained by Qui-Gon Jinn in the film, those were microscopic life forms that exist inside the cells of living things. Slashfilm notes that it is through the number of midi-chlorians in the body that the strength of one's mystical powers is measured. Needless to say, this biological explanation did not resonate well with the fans of the original trilogy as it made the Force less special. Thus, its exclusion in "Episode 7" should be fantastic news for them.
Set 30 years after "The Return of Jedi", "The Force Awakens" will see a new generation of heroes and villains, as well as the return of fan-favorite smugglers, princesses, and Jedi. Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker will appear in the movie as their characters from the original trilogy. Joining them are newcomers John Boyega as Finn, Daisy Ridley as Rey, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Lupita Nyong'o as Maz Kanata, and Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma.
"Star Wars: Episode VII -The Force Awakens" will debut in theaters on December 18, 2015.
