Chinese smartphone maker giant Xiaomi has hinted fans that it will launch a new version of its homegrown MIUI operating system at a press event in Beijing Thursday, Aug. 13.

The unveiling of this much-antipated Xiaomi MIUI 7 will be held in Beijing, at the China National Convention Center, reported Gizmo Burn. As usual, Xiaomi has sent out invites to media with awesome teasers for its event. This time they have come up with a very stylish number 7 design made up of tangram shapes as their flagship marketing banner for this homegown UI. Also, Xiaomi is giving fans a chance to win invitation letters as well as MIUI 7 T-shirts, Gizmo Burn reported.

Meanwhile, iDigital Times indicated that the upcoming MIUI 7 will be based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. And since Xiaomi is known for making its system skin look a lot like iOS, their fans are a lot more excited this time. However, very limited information is rolled out about MIUI 7, but users have indicated on a poll at the MIUI forum that they are most hoping for new features and more customization.

Moreover, with the upcoming launch of the MIUI 7, fans are also hoping the event in Beijing will also see the launch of the much anticipated Mi5 smartphone. Android Authority reminded that the last time Xiaomi announced a new version of its OS was alongside its Mi 4 smartphone. So there is a big possibility that the company may launch its new flagship Mi5 handset at the event, too. As Gizmo Burn described it, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 is expected to feature a Quad HD (1440 x 2560) resolution display, made of 2.5-dimensional glass, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip, 13-megapixel front cameras on its back and front and a 3,000-3,300mAh battery with quick charge capability.

Lastly, Xiaomi is also expected to launch a successor to its Mi Band fitness tracker this year, which may also show up at the launch event, Android Authority added.
