Bourne 5 is under way and casting continue for the upcoming film. The Homesman actor, Tommy Lee Jones is officially on board and is rumored to star as the villain opposite Matt Damon's Jason Bourne. Meanwhile, Jeremy Renner also recently shared that he would love to play the role of Aaron Cross in a collaboration with Damon.
Matt Damon is set to reprise his role as Jason Bourne in the fifth instalment of the franchise, along with Julia Stiles as the CIA Operative Nicky Parsons. Ex Machina star Alicia VIkander is also on board, although the character she is set to play still remain to be undisclosed.
The most recent addition to the cast, in the person of award-winning actor, Tommy Lee Jones, is rumored to play as a superior in the CIA, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. Also, Jones is said to lead the team that will aim to track down Bourne.
According to MNR Daily, Jones' character can be compared to those previously played by Brian Cox, Christ Cooper, David Strathairn, and Edward Norton in the previous instalments in the franchise. Aside from Jones, Lord of the Rings actor Viggo Mortensen is also rumored to star in the upcoming film as a villain.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Renner, who previously portrayed the lead role as Aaron Cross in the 2012 film, The Bourne Legacy, also expressed his interest in playing alongside Damon's Bourne. According to Screen Rant, Bourne 5 was previously rumored to star Renner in the lead role, however, Damon and director Paul Greengrass came along and revealed that the movie will have Damon for the title.
In a recent interview, Renner was asked about the rumors of collaborations between him and Damon co-starring in the franchise. Renner then answered that he would love to do a movie with Damon, "Yeah, I mean in two seconds. I love that world. I love the character. If they want to do that, I'm in. there's no 'no' coming from this direction. I don't pull the strings on that..." he said.
As of writing, Renner's involvement in the upcoming film is yet to be confirmed. Bourne 5 will be directed by Paul Greengrass, with screenplay by Matt Damon, Greengrass, and Christopher Rouse. It is set to hit theaters in July 29, 2016.
