"Star Wars: Shattered Empire" is Marvel's latest addition to the sci-fi franchise that has gained not only tremendous success in terms of sales but also in following.
With the colossal return of the "Star Wars" franchise in the big screen this December, Disney and LucasFilm are trying to fill the 30-year gap between the sixth part, "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi", and the upcoming movie. In doing so, the two companies have released a handful of new Marvel comic titles including the new series "Star Wars: Shattered Empire," according to Sciencefiction.com.
In an interview with Starwars.com, writer Greg Rucka revealed what happened to the Empire after that confrontation on Endor. However, this time, the story is told through the eyes of two new rebellion fighters: a married couple named Kes and Shara Bey.
"When you're young and you see Jedi," Rucka said, "you can look at the happy ending and go, 'Hey, it's over!' But you get older and you start to think about it, and you realize, no it's not. It's not over at all."
The writer's goal was to show that the fight between the two opposing forces is far from over, depicting how Shara the pilot and Kes the muscle were supposed to be war veterans.
In the setting of the story, the two "come out of [the Battle of] Endor with the elation that we see in [Return of the Jedi]. 'We've won. It's over.' - only to discover that, no it's not. The Empire was huge," adds Rucka.
Despite the victory led by the original characters, it turned out that The Empire was not wiped. According to Slash Film, Lucasfilm Story Group, spearheaded by Kiri Hart and President Kathleen Kennedy made sure that all the "Star Wars" movies, books, comic books, and games are linked into one galaxy, far, far away.
In the story which is bound to be released on September 2, the original heroes that many "Star Wars" fans have loved are still present. Luke, Leia, Lando, Han, and even Chewie will be seen. However, the main focus will still be on Kes and Shara Bey.
