Yu Suzuki Thanks Kickstarter Backers For Making Shenmue 3 Come To Life; Rakes In $6.33M Funding

By

Yu Suzuki, the creator of Shenmue, issued a short but meaningful letter to his and the game's fans and supporters that its third installment will now finally come to life after 14 years of waiting.

After the campaign wrapped up on July 17, it raised the record-breaker $6.33 million from 69,000 backers. It pulled out the previous record-holder, which is just a month before that, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, which collected $5.5. million.

According to a Gamepur report, Shenmue was completely surprised on how the fans took the Kickstarter campaign for Shenmue 3 and made it successful. That's why he can't help but get emotional and wept backstage at E3 2015.

Shenmue III became the 6th most-funded project in Kickstarter; and now holds for the fastest game to reach the $1million mark, which reached $2 million (its initial funding goal for development to begin) in just 9 hours.

This was during Sony E3's press conference last June 15 wherein Suzuki introduced the Kickstarter campaign for Shenmue III. Sony will be responsible for the marketing, publishing and production, but won't be receiving any cent from what Ys Net's - Suzuki's production - funds acquired from Kickstarter, Suzuki exclaimed as reported by Gamespot.
