Speaking to the Observer, the 66-year-old writer assured that the ending of "A Song of Ice and Fire" will not end up in some form of apocalypse just like what the fans are currently predicting. "I've said before that the tone of the ending that I'm going for is bittersweet," he revealed. "I mean, it's no secret that Tolkien has been a huge influence on me, and I love the way he ended Lord of the Rings." As per International Business Times, Martin referenced how Frodo is "never whole again" in TLOTR novel series even after the final victory. The said ending is something he wants the readers would also see in his very own masterpiece. "It ends with victory, but it's a bittersweet victory," he emphasized.

Currently, Martin is still working on "Winds of Winter", the sixth installment of his novel series which will reportedly introduce a new female character. Citing Winter is Coming, Yibada claims that Martin is still brainstorming on how the unidentified character will be killed off in the series. No further details about the new character were disclosed though.

Meanwhile, Martin still hasn't given a word yet regarding the highly anticipated release of "Winds of Winter". But the internet rumor mill is suggesting that the book may be rolled out to the book stores before the sixth season of "Game of Thrones" premieres April, next year.
