The popular 'One Tree Hill' actress Sophia Bush has opened up on how devastated she was after finding out her ex boyfriend Dan Fredinburg passed away last April.

In a report from People, Sophia Bush was left devastated and heartbroken after Google executive, and ex boyfriend, Dan Fredinburg died after suffering from head injuries when an avalanche happened at Mount Everest's South Base Camp on April 25, 2015. It was triggered by the 2015 Nepal Earthquake.

Sophia and Dan dated from April 2013 to February 2014, though they broke up due to hectic work schedules, the two remained very good friends and were still close. That being so, it didn't come as a surprise when Sophia Bush opened up on how 'shattered' she was after hearing the news of his death.

According to Eonline, Bush recently opened up to 'Health Magazine' regarding 33 year old Dan's death. In the interview she stated, "Losing one of my best friends a few months ago shattered me," she then continued, "There were days I felt like my body had been turned inside out. I felt like my heart was on the outside of my body and everyone who came near me was stabbing me."

The Mirror UK also reported that after hearing the news, Sohpia Bush immediately began fundraising in memory of her ex boyfriend. Dan Fredinburg was part of OrphanGift which supports two Nepali orphanages; it was for this cause that Dan was out climbing Mount Everest that day. Alongside her ex's family, Sophia took action straight away in spreading the word and raising money for the two orphanages in Dan's name.

Sophia admits that she's still struggling after losing such a close friend, and stated that she's still trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart, but knows it will never be complete again.

To date, with Sophia Bush's help, $12,000 has successfully been raised in Dan Fredinburg's memory.
