Zach Galifianakis has been picked to voice The Joker in Warner Bros 'The LEGO Batman Movie' and will be joining Will Arnett's Batman and Michael Cera, who just recently signed on to play Robin.
Standup comedian and actor Zach Galifianakis joins Will Arnett, who is reprising as the gruff voice of the Caped Crusader he originated in "The LEGO Movie" and Michael Cera, who was recently cast as the hero's sidekick Robin.
'The Hangover' and 'Birdman' star Galifianakis has an extensive portfolio as a voice actor. These include a great turn in 2011's 'Puss In Boots,' but his credits mostly include animated television shows including 'Bob's Burgers' where he has a recurring role, 'The Simpsons,' 'American Dad' and 'TripTank.'
The 'LEGO Batman Movie' will serve as a spinoff to 2014's The LEGO movie, which released to much critical acclaim. Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, will be producing the movie while Chris McKay, the animation supervisor on Lego Movie, is directing the movie based off the script written by author-screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith.
The role as 'The Joker' is a big deal in voice-actor communities. Mark Hamill's version from 'Batman: The Animated Series,' the Batman: Arkham video games, and recently for 'Batman: The Killing Joke' is considered some of the greatest work the medium has ever seen. A list of greats to take on the esteemed role also includes Kevin Michael Richardson, John Dimaggio, Frank Welker, Troy Baker, and more.
Galifianakis just wrapped shooting Fox 2000's comedy 'Keeping Up with the Joneses' with Gal Gadot and Jon Hamm, and will be appearing in 'Baskets,' the TV show he is executive producing with Louis C.K.
