Despite the controversy being faced today by the Planned Parenthood Organization, singer Pink is standing by its side. The mom of one answered her critics and criticized Presidential hopefuls who are in favor of slashing the budget for the said program.
Pink posted on Twitter that Planned Parenthood was the only organization in her town when she was growing up that taught young girls about being sexually responsible. The rock singer showed her support for its program. She also posted the following:
"Do these Rep. hopefuls plan on visiting every town in America handing out pamphlets, hugs, life saving info + screening?! what's their plan?"
Pink was referring to Republican Presidential Candidates such as Rand Paul who want the government to cut funding for Planned Parenthood. According to Ace Showbiz, the plan is to slash about $500 million which the organization is receiving yearly.
Just recently, candid videos of Planned Parenthood employees were exposed by the Anti-Abortion Group Center for Medical Progress. The video allegedly showed them talking about the sale of body parts of a fetus as part of their research. Planned Parenthood meanwhile has denied this saying the footage was edited. Its President Cecil Richards was quoted as saying that they are not doing anything wrong and they are not profiting from tissue donation. She said that neither them nor the patients are benefitting from the said donation in terms of money. Richards added that actual costs such as in transferring the tissue to leading research centers are reimbursed, a standard procedure in the field of medicine.
For almost 100 years, Planned Parenthood has been assisting in the health needs of women including abortions and has been providing medical services for reproductive issues. The Celebrity Auction reports that based on the federal law, donating human fetal tissue is legal but profiting from its sale is not.
Pink has been known for her frank opinion on issues and won't let others change her mind amidst the latest Planned Parenthood controversy.
