Following the strong following from fans of the franchise, Capcom gives a greenlight to Resident Evil 2 Remake which, according to some game pundits, signals the imminent release of Resident Evil 7.
IB Times reports that via its offiial YouTube channel, the developer has confirmed the remake of 1988's Resident Evil 2 and will have Yoshiaki Hirabayashi as the producer. Apart from these, no details have been revealed on when it is coming out and to what particular platforms.
Hirabayashi said that Capcom will defnitely put in fans' request to good use in the development of Resident Evil 2 Remake and provide updates on the project's progress. According to him, it would take quite sometime, thought, but fans can watch out for 2002's Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster slated to launch worldwide by early 2016.
Meanwhile, seasoned RE gamers still have their hopes up for the release of the highly anticipated Resident Evil 7 as a new main title to the franchise speculated to be out October this year and that fans will see 3 new protagonists to be introduced in the game. This report published by Christian Post, however, is yet to be confirmed by the game developer.
Based on the opinion of Attack of the Fanboy, now that Capcom has officially announced Resident Evil 2 Remake, it could mean that Resident Evil 7 is on the cards similar to the strategies used by many franchises.
Examples of such is how Microsoft has remastered the entire Halo collection prior to Halo 5 Guardians, a Tomb Raider remaster was developed ahead of Rise of the Tomb Raider coming this 2015 and tons of game franchises like Gears of War, Dishonored or Uncharted.
Capcom is set to launch Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster around early 2016 and has confirmed that Resident Evil 2 Remake is in development which could pre-empt the release of Resident Evil 7.
