It's a whole new world for Kingdom Hearts III, that is, the San Fransokyo City of the famed Disney movie Big Hero 6. Like in the animation film where friendship is the central theme, so is in this new Kingdom of Hearts installment. Sora and Baymax will battle enemies alongside each other and form a friendship in the process. This was announced at the D23 expo last August 16.
According to the producer of Big Hero 6 Ray Conli: "The themes in Kingdom Hearts and Big Hero 6 match very well. For instance there's friendship, really important to both stories, and then of course light over darkness." Meanwhile, Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto says that the characters and fictional city of Fransokyo are "(a) perfect for Kingdom of Hearts."
Art concepts for Kingdom Hearts 3 were also shared and seen during the announcement, such as, an evil version of Baymax clad in a black armor and Sora riding on the back of the red-suited inflatable robot flying over the scenic fictional city.
The story jump-starts where the movie left off, wherein the disoriented Baymax was left behind in a portal. It is at that point where, according to Hashimoto as reported in Polygon, "that the development team thought it would be interesting if the antagonists in Kingdom Hearts 3 would - spoiler alert! - use the powers of darkness on the old Baymax left behind in the portal, as featured in the film."
Borrowing the Big Hero 6's homecity as setting for this third installment, it is still unclear though whether Hiro or the whole gang will come into the game as well. At this point, Baymax is the only character of the Big Hero 6 film who is definitely joining the Kingdom Hearts 3.
Square Enix did not provide a release date of the game, but will be available for Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
